Guild presentation at Hampton University

Monday July 23, 2007 was the date that ten of our guild members and one honorary member went to Hampton University to teach a teen workshop.  These teens were underprivileged and were in a month long summer enrichment program to get them on track for college.  Sandra did a brief power point presentation about quilting and the Underground Railroad after which other members presented show and tell.  The teens were very excited about the wall hangings and they were amazed that quilts could be made into Art. After show and tell they settled in for the rest of the day to construct their own quilts.   Each child made a nine patch quilt.  They could use it for a pillow cover or a small quilt. We all benefited from this workshop.  The members of our guild were satisfied that we taught these children how to make a quilt and the children were happy with a project that they made for themselves. Those members participating were:  Gwen, Pat, Robert, Vikki, Darryl (took pictures), Lillian, Eva, Dee Minor, Sandra, and Alvenice and Carolyn.  Thanks to Ms. Patra Johnson who works with these teens in the Hampton University program for inviting us
