Yvette Maynard

Yvette Maynard- I’ve thought quilting since I was a teenager when my mother gave me a quilt.  She was not a quilter or crafty person at all so I’m not sure where she got or knew the value of it at the time.  It was handmade and I still remember the bright orange scrap fabric it had.  When my mom died her sister came and ransacked the house for anything of value.  I never saw the quilt again.  However, remembering that orange fabric inspires me to use bright colors and geometrics in my quilting.  I decided that when I got married I should take up a hobby, find a china pattern and start thinking up baby names.  Most of my quilts are not artsy, but rather have a utilitarian look.  I make my quilts to be used and loved.

The first quilt I made cost me about $250.  That included the robbery fee for a beginning quilt class as well as the LQS fabric.   Shortly after that first class, I bought my first machine – a top of the line Pfaff.  I still have not figured out all the buttons on it.

I sold m y first quilt in 2006 at a show in
Chicago .  It had vivid colors and machine embroidery of African figures.  In retrospect, I under priced the quilt, but I never dreamed it would really sell.  The vendor told me it was the last quilt to be sold.

My dream studio is still just that, a dream. The dining room table serves as my cutting and sewing table.

I am addicted to true crime TV series and true crime books by Ann Rice.
